The Max, DC's, and Flixx

Postby nittanylionstorm07 »

Since I can see there are quite a scant fellow gays on here, I must ask:  what's your favorite?

I've only lived here since after time June, but I own been to all three.  The max was originally my favorite because it seemed easier to get together people, since each prevent had its own clientele...but since I found a group of friends, it's changed.  I really, really, really like the atmosphere at DC's, but the several times I've gone there in the past 2 months, it seems as if it is on death's doorstep (though they have great beer prices and selection...yay Pacifico!), so Flixx seems the best option right now with the right mix of people.

I act wonder if anyone else has noticed the recent...how should I say..."changes" at both DCs and the Max....basically, no more basement bar and no more 1st Fridays of the m

Anybody comprehend how long it's been there as a strip club? For some reason I think in the 80's it was more of a regular exclude with bands but could be wrong.

Unclear on that. I do perceive as far back as the early 80's, they were booking nationally touring bands to play there. I saw Jazz-Fusion band Spyro Gyra play The 20's on their "City Kids" tour in 1983...

Gay Omaha

-------------------------------------

Bordered by the Missouri River and the Platte River, Omaha Nebraska has many attractive waterfront parks. Boasting the country’s largest urban arts colony, the city has the nation's largest society playhouse, the third largest children's theater, an opera, a symphony, and a major art museum. Council Bluffs, part of the metropolitan area, is just across the Missouri River in Iowa.

With more than 1million people living within a 50-mile radius, it’s no surprise Omaha has a sizable homosexual community. It shows its true colors for Heartland Pride Day every June, in Omaha.

Getting here

Omaha’s Eppley Airfield is about 7 miles northwest of the city. Taxis, shuttle buses and the number 16 Metro bus are available to carry you downtown. Amtrak trains also stop here.

Getting around

Renting a vehicle is the best way to get around. The Omaha Metro has buses to get you around on public transportation for $1.25. The Downtown Transit Center, (two blocks of 16th St between Dodge and Farnam), is the major hub for connections to most everywhere

Omaha Exploration

Before opening The Max, its partners Bruce Barnard and Don Moran, started the Hollywood Discotheque at 14th and Harney Lane. When it opened its doors in 1978, it wasn’t the first place in town to cater to the gay group in Omaha. Other establishments included The Diamond Lock, Stage Door, Cave and Omaha Mining Company.

The building they chose to expose their dance club had a long history including being home to the Silver Tap Club, Bicentennial Saloon and Upstairs Downstairs Lounge among others. The space had two twirl floors and was large enough to accommodate 1,000 people. Its owners went all out to make it the premier dance club in town. That including hiring the same corporation that did the lighting for Saturday Night Fever.

The Hollywood Disco even had its own restaurant called Chaplin’s which was located in a smaller room within the club. Chaplin’s was separated from the dance floor by a glass wall that allowed diners to watch the party next door. Keeping with its theme, it had a 1930s Art Deco vibe, prints of the famous silent star and even played his movies on a loop.

Once it was announced that the building an
