The Bible on Homosexual Behavior

One way to argue against these passages is to make what I phone the “shellfish objection.” Keith Sharpe puts it this way: “Until Christian fundamentalists boycott shellfish restaurants, end wearing poly-cotton T-shirts, and stone to death their wayward offspring, there is no obligation to attend to their diatribes about homosexuality being a sin” (The Gay Gospels, 21).

In other words, if we can disregard rules fancy the ban on eating shellfish in Leviticus 11:12, then we should be allowed to disobey other prohibitions from the Vintage Testament. But this argument confuses the Old Testament’s temporary ceremonial laws with its permanent moral laws.

Here’s an analogy to support understand this distinction.

What the New Testament Says about Homosexuality

Mainline Christian denominations in this country are bitterly divided over the scrutinize of homosexuality. For this reason it is essential to ask what delicate, if any, the Modern Testament sheds on this controversial issue. Most people apparently assume that the New Testament expresses robust opposition to homosexuality, but this simply is not the case. The six propositions that follow, considered cumulatively, lead to the conclusion that the Novel Testament does not provide any direct guidance for understanding and making verdicts about homosexuality in the modern world.

Proposition 1: Strictly speaking, the Fresh Testament says nothing at all about homosexuality.

‍There is not a single Greek word or phrase in the entire New Testament that should be translated into English as “homosexual” or “homosexuality.” In reality, the very notion of “homosexuality”—like that of “heterosexuality,” “bisexuality,” and even “sexual orientation”—is essentially a current concept that would simply have been unintelligible to the New Testament writers. What does the Bible tell about bisexuality?

Answer

The Bible nowhere directly mentions bisexuality. However, it is clear from the Bible’s denunciations of homosexuality that bisexuality would also be considered sinful. Leviticus 18:22 declares having sexual relations with the same sex to be an abomination. Romans 1:26-27 condemns sexual relations between the same sex as abandoning what is organic. First Corinthians 6:9 states that homosexual offenders will not inherit the kingdom of God. These reality apply equally to bisexuals and to homosexuals.

The Bible tells us that a person becomes bisexual or homosexual because of sin (Romans 1:24-27). This does not necessarily mean sins the person has pledged. Rather, it refers to sin itself. Sin warps, twists, and perverts everything in creation. Bisexuality and homosexuality are caused by sin "damaging" us spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Sin is the plague, and bisexuality is simply one of the symptoms.

Many Christians mistakenly focus on bisexuality and homosexuality as particularly evil sins. The Bible nowhere describes homosexuality as being any less forgivable than any other sin. A bisexual is the same num
