The UK’s answer to San Francisco, the city of Brighton in Sussex is that rare thing – a gay mecca in the midst of the quaint villages of England’s South Coast. It’s one of Europe’s queerest cities – and isn’t it just loving it. Homosexual travellers should make this their number one end in the UK and lesbian Brighton is guaranteed to please with an enormous Pride fest, wonderful nightlife and a retro pier. And as a local I’d say, if you’re considering moving here – do it!
I’ve covered things to do in Hove before, Brighton’s western suburb – which you’ll find suits if you’re travelling with family or generally imagine being in bed by 10pm most nights. For those who are unpartnered and ready to mingle, you want to linger in Brighton itself – with Kemp Town or the Lanes being prime locations.
HOW LGBT FRIENDLY IS BRIGHTON?
If anywhere in Britain will accept you – this is it. Brighton is the left voting, environment saving, vegan eating gay capital of the UK and has been for centuries. A lot of pink tourism companies bill this as the perfect gay holiday destination.

Brighton and Hove has the highest proportion of people identifying as bisexual, pansexual, asexual and non-binary in England and Wales, fresh census data shows.
The numbers on sexual orientation, from the 2021 census, shows that Brighton and Hove had the largest LGB+ population among those aged 16 years and over, with 10.7 per cent of those who answered the question claiming a non-straight identity.
The city also had the largest percentage nationally of people naming as bisexual (3.7 percent), pansexual (0.7 percent), asexual (0.1 percent) and gay (0.3 percent).
From the results on gender identity, Brighton and Hove had the highest percentage (0.4 percent) of people who identified as non-binary.
Nationally, 89.4 percent (around 43.4 million people) identified as straight or heterosexual, but in Brighton and Hove this figure was lower at 80.6 percent.

Brighton Pride
Brighton Pride is one of the biggest Pride festivals in the UK attracting approximately 160,000 visitors to the annual parade and party in Preston Park. The festival also includes an arts and clip festival; dog show and village party.
