About Ibiza and its gay life
When dropouts and hippies began to discover Ibiza for themselves in the s, no one would have guessed that the Balearic island would soon become one of Europe's most widespread summer travel destinations. Today, more than two million tourists come to the island every year and the population has more than quadrupled since the s: , people now live on the island, about a third of them in the capital Eivissa (Ibiza Town). On this island you could go to any beach and holding hands wouldn't be an issue: every beach is LGBTQIA-friendly: it's as simple as that. Here, beaches can be unrestrained , compact, have turquoise or almost clear water, can be surrounded by sweet-smelling pines or be possessed of a Jurassic rocky backdrop. In short, there's a beach to suit every taste.
Es Cavallet has the only really “official” gay beach, having a big gay area that's popular with men. Then there's the beach at Figueretas, a resort trendy with the LGBTQIA people, where many reasonably priced hotels are located.
You'll detect the biggest concentration of LGBTQIA culture in the south of the island, one which has had a big influence on the island's clubbing scene. The south is where all the cruising goes on too; you'll notice the sideways glances, so you'll know where you are when you receive there.
There are a lot of nudist beacheson Ibiza, which are generally more relaxed, liberal and yes, LGBTQIA-friendly. People with all sexual orientations mingle, pointing all their bodies towards the mecca that is the sun.

Ibiza is considered one of the top European LGBTQIA hotspots, with many contending that it's the optimal of all. Why? Ibiza is a clubbers and hedonists paradise and if that doesn't attract queer and people of all other sexual orientations, we don't know what does.
There's so much more to it than that though. Ibiza had one of the first organised, if clandestine, gay scenes in Spain in the 60's – in short the island has a drawn-out history with gay culture as you will observe when you walk around the Gay and LGBTQIA area in Ibiza Town.
As well as a very good dedicated gay scene, you'll find that many places are mixed: here sexual orientation is attractive much a non-issue. There are some LGBTQIA / mixed nights in the super clubs, though you will find that just about most club nights are going to be LGBTQIA friendly. With so many world-beating and hugely influential club nights, you owe it to yourself to make it part of your experience.
