Gay & Bi Male DVDs

It’s summer in New York City, and the neighborhood bears are coming out of hibernation. A organization of friends is getting ready for the annual week-long celebration of all things bear, but plans keep getting turned upside down. BearCity is Gay As Folk meets Sex in the City — only with more hair and tons of scorching bear-on-bear action! Closet cub Tyler fantasizes about stuffing Santa’s stocking and discovery a Daddy bear to do more than snuggle. But as he dives into the bear collective, he finds that it can be hard for a hairless guy to get some fuzzy loving. Scene stealers Brent and Fred are the maybe-not-so-monogamous couple who invite him to move in as they figure out how to spice things up. Southern bear-belle Michael struggles to juggle his companion , his job search and his body image issues, but an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction might solve all three. Rakish Roger is the stud-about-town, and he’ll pretty much bang (on screen) anyone with facial hair. That is, until an awesomely awkward run-in at the local bowling alley challenges both his bowling prowess and his bear-loving mojo. Add to that some adorable eye-candy, an indispensable fairy-god-roommate, beer

What could the cinema do for us, in a year as vicious and divided as ? It’s a lot to ask of art to save the planet, but it can at least, we hope, inform and educate, broadening our collective horizons – a salve in an age of misinformation, culture wars and starkly polarised political debates. The international diversity of this year’s winners and their subject matter, chosen by a global pool of critics, gives a heartening sense of broadened horizons. Cinema has always been the fastest way to travel.

Our worthy winner is a film about affectionate , but one that takes a clear stance against Islamophobia and other religious, caste and class prejudices that constrict real people’s lives. For its maker, love can be “both a form of resistance against society, but also [a step] towards having choice for women”. Such a feminist message sits comfortably at the foremost of this year’s poll. There are more female than male directors in the top ten, a feat that has only happened once before, in the pandemic year of , when there were seven women listed – this year finds six.

Malcolm Ingram&#;s exploration of a uniquely lgbtq+ subculture made its premiere at SXSW in In addition to screening at numerous LGBT film fests, including NewFest, Frameline, and Outfest, among others, the doc was presented at numerous bear events around the US, and picked up a jury award at the Atlanta Movie Festival in

Ingram&#;s previous documentary, SMALL TOWN Same-sex attracted BAR, provided insight and inspiration as it demonstrated the need for society, even against a backdrop of intolerance. In a similar vein, his newest film is focused on belonging &#; specifically, the brotherhood that has formed among gay men with a particular body type that is typically not celebrated in either the mainstream straight or same-sex attracted communities. While those well-versed in the gay society may know what bears are &#; generally, larger, hairier gay men &#; the general public most likely does not. Interestingly, it&#;s this latter community that Ingram&#;s film may best serve, providing exposure to an alternate conception of gay male sexuality that embraces a specific conception of masculinity that might be surprising to straight wome
