Gay zuko
IN THIS HOUSE, WE Adoration AND SUPPORT Bi!Zuko
headcanons:
- I realize that there’s comic stuff about Sozin being homophobic, but I am within my rights to neglect it. If people can move rocks with their mind and if dragons can exist, there can be normalized gay people damn it.
- So it’s not really a big deal to question your sexuality or to be gay/bi, but within the Heat Nation upper class you don’t really talk about it. There’s a heteronormativity problem, but not assertive homophobia.
- When he’s younger, Zuko doesn’t really think about anyone like that. He’s got firebending training, sword training, and then he’s crowned prince all of a sudden, so he’s kind of got other stuff going on.
- Mai has a crush on him when she’s 12 and he’s 13 and he starts to develop some puppy-crush feelings from her.
- They do a cute pre-teen date where they act with knives outside the palace and climb on roofs (Maiko does parkour on their dates, I don’t make the rules)
- Mai’s really the only person he’s had feelings for by this point (again, he’s 13 and he’s been pretty busy entity a prince and all to think about that sort of thing)
- Then the whole banishment thing happens and he really does no

Little Gay Zuko Sunday 😌
[ID: 5 images of Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender with the limp hand. In the first, he is standing and speaking in front of some trees. In the second, from the comics, he is standing in front of Appa while Sokka kneels on the ground. In the third, he is sitting on the ground with one leg out and his limp hand resting on his opposite knee. In the fourth, he is firebending against Azula’s cerulean fire. In the fifth, he is holding Iroh’s sandal with the limp wrist, his other hand on his hip. Complete ID.]
In the year 96 AG, a freshly burned and banished 13-year-old Prince Zuko discovers a strange teen frozen in an iceberg.
When Zhao interferes with Zuko's plans to deliver the Avatar to his father, Aang helps Zuko and Iroh escape. They seize refuge in the abandoned Air Temples, Aang searching for any remnants of his people that he can find. Along the way, he teaches an indoctrinated Zuko about the true nature of the Air Nomads, and Zuko must come to terms with the fact that everything he has been taught was a lie down, while Iroh must confirm and face the sins of his past.
Eventually, Aang and Zuko become cover friends, and Zuko begins to feel things he has never felt for anyone before. However, Zhao will not give up easily, and will execute whatever it takes to capture the Avatar and his traitor accomplices.
(A retelling of AtLA exploring the friendship and eventual love affair that could have developed between Aang and Zuko if the circumstances of their meeting had been different. Eventually will cease up following most of the canon events of the original show, just over the span of 3-4 years instead of 1.)
(CURRENT UPDATE SCHEDULE IS ROUGHLY EVERY 3-4 WEEKS)
mostly i think zuko’s meet with jin informed the outside view that we have on zuko entity gay rather than it being a clue to zuko himself on how he’s gay. iroh pushes zuko to attend this date with jin because he’s mostly well meaningly trying to get zuko to do normal teenage boy stuff, go on dates and have entertainment. as iroh is a heterosexual man, he fails to see zuko is a solid kinsey 6. or maybe he didn’t fail to see it at all and this date was his “this one can surely spin him back” homophobic moment, who’s to say. however that is zuko behaves like a total asshole in front of this girl which has more to do with the fire nation’s misogyny & strict gender norms and zuko’s background both as a privileged prince and teenage boy survivor of abuse and with an attitude problem than with the fact that he’s gay. that entire cupon scene did actually occur bc he was homosexual tho, and that he didn’t show any passionate interest in jin but rather he’s kind in other ways, litting up the lanterns for her and all (that’s literally all i remember zuko did on that meet that was remotely agreeable i hate him so much god bless).
