LGBT rights and equality

Note: This page is a reproduction of the Hillary for America policy proposal on LGBT rights and equality.

Thanks to the hard operate of generations of LGBT advocates and activists who fought to make it possible, our country won a landmark victory last June when the Supreme Court recognized that in America, LGBT couples—like everyone else—have the right to marry the person they love.

We’ve come so far, but we still own work to do.

As president, Hillary will:

Hillary will perform with Congress to go by the Equality Act, last President Obama’s LGBT equality executive actions, and assist efforts underway in the courts to protect people from discrimination on the basis of gender culture and sexual orientation in every aspect of widespread life.
  • Support LGBT youth, parents, and elders. Hillary will end so-called “conversion therapy” for minors, combat youth homelessness by ensuring adequate funding for safe and welcoming shelters, and grab on bullying and harassment in schools. She’ll complete discriminatory treatment of LGBT families in adoptions, and protect LGBT elders against discrimination.

During a 2014 interview with NPR, Clinton and host Terry Gross sparred over the topic in a conversation that, at times, grew testy. Clinton told Gross that she always viewed marriage as “a matter left to the states and in many of the conversations I and my colleagues
