Gay bars key west

From the moment I landed in Key West, I knew it was going to be a nice week. Arriving to the small island airport was just like I remembered from my childhood visits decades before.

A small plane, walking on the tarmac, an airport with local art on the walls, and a single waiting area for luggage, taxis, and snacks. It’s tough to tell if you’re inside or out, except for the air-conditioning.

The warm, humid air on a late winter weekend was a welcome surprise. Warmer than I would have expected. On the way from the airport to my hotel, the windows down, a breeze through the window and palm trees overhead swaying in the wind. It felt like I’d landed in another world.

Key West has this mystifying impact. The subtropical climate, the warm & friendly locals, the quiet nights abuzz with laughter and adore. Tennessee Williams wrote about Key West, “I can write anywhere, but I write the best here.” Something in the energy of Key West just makes it that nice of perfectly livable, perfectly enjoyable destination.

Maybe that’s what has attracted LGBTQ travelers to Key West for decades. It was in the 1970s when many gay men and lesbians st

GAY MUST Complete - RULE OF 3

As you read this blog on the wondrous gay scene of Key West, just think of the three gay things that you MUST do. In order:
First, the gay Tea Dance on Sunday at La Te Da - 4pm. Dance in the open air in the wonderful heat and the setting sun. One of the best gay tea dances in the society (and I am a connoisseur of this dying breed!).

Second, the lovely Bourbon Road pub and their even lovelier strippers. The main / busiest / biggest Key West gay block. Every night, but don't get there until after midnight.

Third, the drag business at Aqua and the ultimate drag queen and supremo Inga. Classic. Hilarious.

Do all three. More details and links below.

WHERE IS THE GAY SCENE LOCATED?

The epicenter of Gay Key West is on Duval Lane on the 800 Block (head for the intersection of Petronia Street and Duval Street and you'll see the rainbow flags). Here pretty much everything is gay: you'll detect most of the lgbtq+ bars, 2 gay fashion stor

Conch! It's quite a quirky synonyms, satisfying, yet it sounds like you're cursing…“you CONCHhead!” or “you're such a CONCH!”

Giggles aside, over in the gay island mecca of Key West, a conch is a legit nickname given to the locals. And this bunch of conchers sure grasp how to live existence to the fullest!

Key West is famous for its relaxed, tolerant and gender non-conforming inclusivity. Historically it's always been different, helped by the fact that it is the southernmost aim of the USA mainland, slightly cut off from the rest of Florida. This has allowed Key West to thrive as a mixed haven for an eclectic blend of people ranging from Native Americans, Spanish, freed slaves, pirates, and of course, the LGBTQ community.

It has also been a bedrock for artistic talent with the likes of openly gay playwriter, Tennessee Williams, Ernest Hemingway, and Judy Blume all making this unassuming island their home base. Key West even has an official motto of “One Human Family”.

Gay Key West – the best gay hotels, resorts, bars, clubs & more

Key West is a bona fide gaytopia! Nestled at the southernmost tip of the United States, just 90 miles from Cuba and surrounded by the shimmering waters of the Atlantic on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other, how can such a tranquil setting be anything but liberal?

Over the centuries, Key West and the Florida Keys have been the ports of pirates, famous sailors, and later, the home of inspirational writers like Ernest Hemingway. Nowadays, it's the ideal blend of Caribbean flair and American spirit, where a chilled-out ‘live and let live' approach to life dominates among its inhabitants. Not to note, it has a flourishing gay scene away from pesky mainland politics.

This eclectic, delightful little island has loads to offer active travelers—kayaking, skydiving, shipwreck diving—and just the right amount of low-key activities in the form of beaches, shops, and galleries for those who just wish to dip their toes into the Caribbean in a familiar LGBTQ+-friendly environment.
