Gays of west hollywood

I was at a lgbtq+ bar in Chicago recently—Sidetrack, one of the finest places to attend a crowded viewing party for RuPaul’s Drag Race—and was surprised by what happened when the show ended and The Real Friends of WeHo came on instead of Drag Race Untucked. The bar cleared out so fast that you would have reflection someone had pulled the fire alarm.

Real Friends is MTV’s new Real Housewives-esque reality show tracking the lives of a diverse set of gay men in Los Angeles. I decided to give these new friends a chance. The very first line, delivered by celebrity stylist Brad Goreski (decked out in a suit with short pants) was, “West Hollywood is, like, the epicenter of the same-sex attracted world!”

Nope. [Click]

Ironically, the opening song lyrics for the show were “I wish something else,” from a remake of “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind. What a coincidence. I, too, wanted something else—namely, the episode of Untucked that I was expecting to see after Drag Race. These lyrics were the only thing in the whole show that I identified with.

I understand that current gay society revolves around bashing this show, and I don’t intend to pile on here. Sure, the present is litera

LGBTQ

For decades, West Hollywood has been home to one of the largest annual Pride celebrations in the world, drawing hundreds of thousands of people. This year, WeHo Pride Weekend will take place May 31 &#; June 2, with a host of activities, including the WeHo LGBTQ Arts Festival, OUTLOUD Raising Voices Music Festival, WeHo Pride Parade and many more.

West Hollywood is the epicenter of LGBTQ culture in Southern California, and is proud that more than 40% of the city’s population identifies as LGBTQ. Visitors will find 20 hotels, located in a safe, welcoming urban environment that was built on the needs and interests of the community.

For LGBTQ travelers, here’s a lot to like about West Hollywood, including one of the world’s most vibrant LGBTQ nightlife scenes, sleek designer hotels and easy access to the countless cultural and sightseeing landmarks in nearby Los Angeles.

Top Attractions & Things to Do

West Hollywood is bursting with LGBTQ-friendly restaurants, local coffee shops, indulgent day spas, sensational shopping and outstanding art galleries.

Don’t miss the West Hollywood Design District, abode to more than art galleries, fashion boutiques, interio

Nestled between Beverly Hills and Hollywood and covering an area of only about two square miles, West Hollywood is home to more than 34 thousand people.

More than a third of the population identifies as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender and coming up this weekend, as it has done for 47 years, WeHo will host the Pride Parade and Festival.

The little city has played an oversized role in history in the queer community. Karen Tongson knows a lot about that rich heritage. She teaches gender studies at USC, and when she stopped by Take Two, she told A Martinez all about the early history of West Hollywood, what sets it apart from other L.A. cities when it comes to LGBT history and more.

Roots

"In the starting, this part of town was welcoming to people of all communities, LGBT communities in particular, because West Hollywood was unincorporated into the city of LA particularly in the '20s

It mattered a lot because that meant that the LAPD was not policing that particular area of town and so gambling houses, entertainment zones, basically licentious entertainment zones began to grow in that area. As with most LGBT communities or hubs around the society, peopl
