The Boy Scouts of America is part of the fabric of this nation. Our focus is on working together to bring the nation's foremost youth program of character maturation and values-based leadership practice. Somehow, Scouting has get one of the focal points in the debate on homosexuality. However, it is not the role of the Boy Scouts to resolve this complex issue, nor can the decision we will produce today.
In 2000, the Supreme Court ruled that the BSA has the right to set its membership standards. It is worth noting that the court's decision was not about whether homosexuality is right or wrong; rather, it affirmed that private organizations have the right to set membership rules based on their beliefs and values.
At the BSA's National Annual Meeting today, the 1,400 voting members of our National Council will vote on a proposed resolution that would finish the restriction on queer youth membership. That's the right decision for Teen Scouts.

On behalf of the Union for Reform Judaism whose 900 congregations across North America encompass 1.5 million Reform Jews, the Central Conference of American Rabbis, with membership of more than 2000 Reform rabbis, I write to urge you and the Boy Scouts of America Board of Directors to end the discriminatory ban prohibiting queer scouts and scout leaders into the Boy Scouts of America.

Seemingly clashing with the established facade of Dutch “tolerance”, this team of Muslim immigrants has logically found a instinctive enemy within right-wing political parties. However, on a more interesting level, we see that the political agenda of the homosexual movement has seemingly converged with the agenda of those right-wing groups. In a sense, this convergence of agendas seems odd considering the general association of the gay movement with leftist, more evolving political movements.
