The lively neighborhood is home to a significant portion of Philadelphia’s 60,000 LGBTQ+ residents. The 16-square-block area applications a slew of LGBTQ+-owned and -friendly bars, restaurants, shops, theaters and institutions, plus 36 rainbow avenue signs and two rainbow crosswalk intersections.

June 1st marks the beginning of Pride Month, a time to commemorate the 1969 riots at the Stonewall Inn and celebrate the Pride movement and LGBTQ+ community. (Plus, did you know that Philadelphia’s first Gay Celebration Day took place in 1972?) While Pride dates back over 50 years, it feels more needed than ever. So, from kingly shows to block parties, here’s how Philly is planning a month of events for the Diverse community and allies of all ages to rejoice.

Pride March
An ode to the 1960s Annual Reminders, the Philly Pride Pride calls the LGBTQ+ collective and its allies to take to the streets in the spirit of LGBTQ+ visibility and solidarity.
Kicking off at 10:30 a.m. near 6th & Walnut streets, this community protest begins with speeches, melody and a land acknowledgement from the Lenape Tribe, before winding from Antique City to the Lgbtq+ fest Festival-grounds.
The vehicle-free procession features hundreds of LGBTQ+ people members, groups, leaders and allies marching side-by-side, with Philly Pride’s ever-expanding rainbow flag — now the largest in Philly history at an impressive 600 feet — making appearances along the way.
